Tier one Checkpoint : Display your parents.

"Mom was always a free spirit. One with the world around her. Dad? Well... I don't know much about him. Lucky for me he died before I ever got the chance to get to know him. I was still very small when the team came home without him. I seemed to be the only one that day who didn't cry. I was too little to understand.

Every now and then I'd catch mom on her good days, where that long-lost spark of hope would glitter across those green eyes of hers. I'd spend my whole day with her then, asking about stuff I wanted to know without being scooted away for the simple fact she wasn't in the mood to talk about it. I remember asking how her and dad met, and how only a loving huff of amusement slipped from a small smile before she finally answered me. 

She told me how crazy she used to be. Rolling around in the flowers just for the sheer joy of being alive. Crashing into streams to see the droplets glitter in the sunlight. How much the simple things meant to her. I can still see the look on her face when she brought up Cezek, my dad. As if he was standing right in front of her flashing that side-grin she swooned over to this day. Mom told me how weird she was to the other mares in the herd, before they all left or died. How finding a mate wasn't the top thing on her list, and honestly it never really crossed her mind. Until he showed up.

Cezek was the apple of every mare's eye, she said. All of the gals would find a way to get close to him, but Mom said he just looked away. As if they didn't exist. She told me one day she was rolling around in the fields again when a large shadow suddenly blocked the sun from warming her neck. Ma would laugh then, her eyes rolling as she told me what she did next. She said she just looked up and flashed him the most cheesiest, unattractive smile... and how he just stared at her with 'those stunning eyes' before flopping over and joining her. After that, she told me, it just went uphill from there. 

She went on to tell me about the wedding and the birth of all three of my brothers.... how he loved them so... Then came me. Four days after I was born the scouting team, which he was head of, returned with news that would wreck my mother's life. Cezek had been killed by a panther, his team bleeding from multiple gashes... They never found his body. She told me how excited he was throughout her pregnancy with me. How he would sing to her belly almost every night. Mom stopped talking then... I knew she had said too much. I can still hear her... telling me to go play with my brothers so she could rest. I got about six feet away when the sobbing started." - Rune
